Accident Recovery Care
Since nearly any physical force radiates to the skeletal system and can cause spinal misalignments, an evaluation for Accident Recovery Care at our office is essential after an accident. Any subluxations that were created in your spine during the accident often remain in your body and prevent you from healing properly. That may be the reason why over half of accident victims reported in the U.S. never completely recover from their injuries and may live on painkillers, physical therapy or even repeated surgery for years. Sometimes they're told that they'll have to live in pain for the rest of their lives! Accident Recovery Care at our office may make the difference between true recovery, healing and strength, or lingering pain, sickness and disability.
It must be emphasized that our office never opposes necessary medical care. We will in fact refer to an MD to co-manage accident cases. In emergencies, the first order of business is always controlling life-threatening situations such as bleeding, breathing issues, broken bones, serious contusions or abrasions, shock and the like. That is the specialty of emergency medicine.
Unfortunately today, millions of accident victims leave the hospital with as much spinal nerve stress as they had when they entered. That's a big reason why so many people say, "I haven't felt right since the accident". Without addressing the underlying soft tissue unjuries and spinal misalignments, which are causing interference in the proper functioning of the nervous system, they may continue to suffer for months, years or even decades afterwards.
Collisions that occur during automobile crashes, sporting events or even slips and falls can have a damaging effect on your neck and back. These types of collision-related injuries are often called a "whiplash." Whiplash is most commonly received from riding in a car that is struck from behind or that collides with another object. When the head is suddenly jerked back and forth beyond its normal limits, the muscles and ligaments supporting the head and spine can be over-stretched or torn. The soft, pulpy discs between spinal bones can bulge, tear, or rupture. Vertebrae can be forced out of their normal position, reducing range of motion. The resulting instability of the spine and soft tissues can cause headaches, numbness, coldness or "pins-and-needles" in the face, chest, arms, wrists or hands. It can also result in anxiety, insomnia, low back and neck pain, ear ringing, dizziness, hearing loss, eye pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light and other symptoms. As the body attempts to adapt, symptoms may not appear until weeks or even months later.
INJURED AT WORK?
Spinal injuries are the most common "on the job" injuries. As one expert has stated: "We are now facing an epidemic of lower back disability in western society." The facts speak for themselves...Look at some of the studies:
Florida Study: Claims from 10,000 cases showed: under standard medical care the patient was disabled for 59 days; under chiropractic, 39 days. Consequently, the shortened disability time reduced the average cost of chiropractic care to less than half of that for medical treatment of the same condition.
Oregon Study: An Oregon study revealed that under medical care, 41 could return to work after one week but under chiropractic care, 82 were able to return to work after one week.
California Study: C. Richard Wolf, M.D. compared 500 people sent to medical doctors and 500 sent to chiropractors. The chiropractic patients returned to the job after 15.6 days while those under medical care remained disabled 32 days.
These studies show that doctors of chiropractic relieve chronic and severe spine pain both immediate and long term, in one half the time it takes MD's not trained in chiropractic procedures. There are now in excess of 60 scientific studies which demonstrate the value of spinal manipulation as the most effective and cost-effective form of treatment for dysfunctional problems in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
